The Best Foreign Films Of 2011

Here is a list of the top three best foreign films of 2011 in no particular order:

13 Assassins – Director Takashi Miike has crafted a story about a group of highly skilled samurai who have teamed up to kill a rival Lord who rapes and kills at will. No one is able to do anything about it, because the Lord is son to the current Shogun which makes him untouchable. These 13 Assassins team up to take on this Lord and his army at all costs. In the end, it’s more like 13 vs. 300. Saying there will be blood would be an understatement.

Julia’s Eyes (Los ojos de Julia) – Guillermo Del Toro produces this film which is directed by Guillem Morales. “Julia’s Eyes” tells the tale of Julia who’s blind twin sister is murdered by an unseen stranger. Julia also suffers from this degenerative eye disease and she too begins to get stalked by the same person who killed her sister. There are several homages to Alfred Hitchcock and Dario Argento throughout the film. “Julia’s Eyes” is a very cool thriller.

Incendies – “Incendies” is a film that chronicles the journey of a brother and a sister who take on the task of unraveling their mother’s mysterious life. The siblings are twins, and this journey that they will embark on is set in the Middle East, and is also in their mother’s final will and testament.
